All-on-4 Tooth Replacement
In recent years, dental implant supported tooth replacement has dramatically increased in popularity. However, there are still many aspects of these treatment options that aren’t fully understood by patients. One of the lesser known dental implant treatments is All-on-4 restoration. Like traditional implant supported dentures, these restorations use implant posts to support a full denture prosthetic, but the unique placement method makes All-on-4 the ideal option for numerous patients who would not otherwise be good candidates for dental implant supported restorations. At Den-Care, our Lauderhill dentist and team offer a wide range of dental restoration options including All-on-4. If you’re interested in finding out more, call our office to schedule your dental implant consultation today.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium posts inserted below the gum line to support a replacement tooth or teeth. Implant posts fuse with the soft tissue and jawbone to recreate the lost root structures of teeth. This fusion with the jawbone creates the most natural looking and feeling restorations.
How is All-on-4 Different?
Traditional implant supported dentures use posts positioned along the gum line. All-on-4 relies on a unique positioning of the dental implant posts. Two of the posts are positioned vertically into the jaw to support the front of the denture. The other two implants are positioned diagonally from the back of the jawbone into the front. This allows us to support the entire denture using the naturally denser parts of the jaw. That means patients who may not have otherwise been able to receive an implant retained denture without advanced preparatory bone or soft tissue grafts can safely and successfully achieve full mouth reconstruction using All-on-4.
Benefits of All-on-4 Treatment
All-on-4 offers patients numerous benefits including:
- Affordability – compared with other implant supported dentures, All-on-4 is the most cost effective solution. This means more patients are able to fit implant supported dentures into their budgets.
- Long lasting – once in place, All-on-4 dentures can last for ten or more years.
- Stability – traditional dentures restore 20% of chewing ability, but All-on-4 can restore 70% or more natural chewing function.
- More patient success – the unique placement method means more patients have greater chances for successful implantation.
Caring for Your Restoration
Once your All-on-4 restoration is in place, you’ll need to care for it to maintain the dental restoration for a decade or longer. You should brush your denture at least twice a day to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Use soft bristled tooth brushes or minimally abrasive toothpaste to avoid unnecessary wear. One of the most important aspects of oral health following All-on-4 placement is keeping your gums healthy. We often recommend patients invest in water flossers to clean below the denture. You can also use an antimicrobial mouth rinse to limit the numbers of oral bacteria and reduce plaque buildup. During your regular preventive dental checkups, we’ll examine the All-on-4 denture to ensure it is still properly fitted, and our team works with patients to keep their dental prosthetics flawless for years to come.
